Troubleshooting

Most problems are one of five things, and four of them are fixed by a refresh. This page covers what each message means and what to do about it.

Try this first

Refresh the page and run the sort again. Sort Feed loads along with a page, so a tab that was open before you installed or updated it doesn't have the current version running in it.

That single step fixes most reports we get. If the page has been sitting open for hours, a refresh also clears the timeout message below.

Nothing happens when I sort

  • The tab predates the install or the last update. Refresh it.
  • You aren't signed in to the platform in that tab. Sort Feed only sorts what the page will show you.
  • The grid hasn't loaded yet. Wait for the posts to appear, then sort.
  • The extension isn't running on that page. Open chrome://extensions and check Sort Feed is enabled.
  • Another extension is changing the same page. This is the usual cause once a refresh hasn't helped, and the next section covers how to find it.

Another extension is interfering

Sort Feed works by reading the page you're on and rearranging it. Any other extension doing the same job on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook or YouTube can get in the way, and the usual symptom is a sort that appears to do nothing at all.

Open chrome://extensions, turn the others off, and run the sort again. Other social media tools, downloaders, ad and script blockers, and privacy extensions are the common culprits, since all of them modify the same pages.

If that fixes it, turn them back on one at a time until the sort breaks again. The last one you enabled is the conflict, and you can leave that one off rather than removing anything permanently.

It says I'm on the wrong page

These messages are precise, and each one names what to do. They mean the page you're on doesn't carry the data that sort needs, not that something broke. What works where is the full reference.

  • "Go to Profiles, Search or Saved" means the tab isn't a sortable page at all, such as a home feed or a settings page.
  • A message about the Posts and Reels tabs means you're on a profile but on a tab like Tagged.
  • A message about views not being tracked means that surface has no view counts. Sort by likes instead, or move to the Reels tab.
  • "Switch to Latest" on TikTok or YouTube means the feed has been re-ordered by the platform. Select the Latest chip and try again.
  • An outlier message means you're not on a profile. Outlier score needs one creator's history.

The sort found nothing

A date sort that matches nothing says so and leaves the original feed alone. It usually means the creator didn't post in that window, so widen it.

A grid that comes back much smaller than you asked for means the profile ran out of posts, which is the correct answer rather than a failure.

Downloads or transcripts fail

One failure is usually the platform rate-limiting your account for a moment. Wait a few seconds and try again.

Downloads and transcripts failing together, repeatedly, is the platform throttling the requests both of them depend on. Give it a few minutes, then refresh. Transcribing videos lists the individual transcription messages and what each one means.

You aren't charged for a failed transcript. Timeouts, engine failures and videos with no speech in them all return the minutes.

Saving doesn't work

  • Sign in to save means Sort Feed doesn't know who you are yet. Saves belong to your account, so sign in and click Save again.
  • Your library is full means the free plan's 50 saved posts are used. Remove a few from your saved posts on the web, or move to Pro for unlimited saves.
  • Couldn't save, try again is usually a connection blip. Click Save once more.
  • No Save button on posts means it's switched off, or you're not on Instagram. Open Sort Feed, click the gear, and check Save button under Display.
  • A saved post that no longer opens on Instagram has usually been deleted by its creator. Your copy still plays and downloads from your saved posts; only Open on Instagram stops working. Saving explains why.

Other messages

  • A timeout message about the tab means the page has been idle too long. Refresh it to reconnect.
  • A sign-in prompt on Google Sheets or transcription means Sort Feed doesn't know who you are. Sign in from the extension.
  • A Pro prompt on a locked option means the plan, not a bug. The free plan covers 25 posts or one week.
  • An empty red bar with no text is a bug. Tell us what you clicked and we'll fix it.
  • A message from Claude or ChatGPT about Sort Feed MCP has its own pages: Connect Claude or ChatGPT for connection messages, Asking for a sort for the rest.

Checking your version

Open chrome://extensions to see which version you're running. Chrome updates extensions on its own, but turning on Developer mode and clicking Update pulls one immediately.

That's worth doing before reporting anything, since these docs describe the current version.

Still stuck

The Discord and email links at the bottom of this nav both reach a person. Tell us the platform, the page and what you clicked, and it usually takes one reply.
