Sort Feed MCP: an Instagram MCP for Claude and ChatGPT

Sort Feed MCP is an Instagram MCP for Claude and ChatGPT. Ask for the top posts on any profile and they come back as a table, with a Google Sheet one line later.

Sort Feed MCP: an Instagram MCP for Claude and ChatGPT

An Instagram MCP lets an AI assistant work with Instagram data on your behalf. Sort Feed MCP is ours: connect it once, and Claude or ChatGPT can sort a profile and hand you the top posts in the chat.

It is included with Pro, it covers Instagram, and it is in beta. Here is what it does and where it stops.

What an Instagram MCP is

MCP is an open standard that lets an assistant use other apps. Each app publishes a small set of tools, and the assistant calls them when your request needs one.

Sort Feed MCP publishes the sorts you already run from the extension. Ask a question about a profile, and the assistant runs the sort and reads the result, with no copying and pasting on your side.

What you can ask

Give the assistant three things in plain words: the profile, how much of it to look at, and what to rank by. Anything you leave out gets a default, the latest 25 ranked by views.

  • Sort natgeo's latest 50 reels by views and show me the top 5.
  • Sort lululemon's reels from the last 3 months by outlier score and show me what broke out.
  • Sort natgeo and nasa, latest 100 reels each, by outlier score, and give me the CSV.
  • Sort my saved posts by likes and show me the top 10.

Profiles rank by views, likes, comments, outlier score or oldest, on Reels or Posts. An Explore search and a single Saved collection rank by likes, comments or oldest, and Saved All Posts by likes or oldest.

Several profiles in one prompt run one after another. That is where a chat earns its place: a question that spans five competitors is one sentence, and the assistant can compare the tables it gets back.

How it runs

Nothing new is installed. The assistant sends the request to Sort Feed's server, the server passes it to the extension in your browser, and the extension runs the sort in a background tab.

You will see that tab open with the usual yellow overlay and progress banner. Keep working in another window, but leave the browser open. Most sorts finish within a minute.

Getting results out

The chat shows up to 25 rows, each with a link to the post. The full sorted set is one request away as a CSV, a JSON file or an Excel workbook, with the same columns as the extension's own export.

Ask for a Google Sheet and the assistant creates one in your own Drive. Google Sheets covers connecting Google the first time.

Set it up

Setup takes about a minute and happens once. The Sort Feed MCP page walks through it for both assistants, and Connect Claude or ChatGPT in the docs has the same steps with troubleshooting.

You can connect on the free plan, but sorts from the chat need Pro. The extension has to be installed in the browser you leave open.

What it won't do

Sort Feed MCP is read only. It never likes, follows, comments, messages or posts, and it reads the same numbers the extension reads.

  • Instagram only for now. TikTok, Facebook and YouTube still sort from the extension.
  • No downloads or transcripts from the chat. Run those from the sorted grid.
  • One sort covers up to 500 posts during the beta.
  • An hourly and daily budget applies. The assistant tells you when you reach it and how long to wait.

It works one profile at a time, at the pace of a person scrolling, and stops at the first sign Instagram wants it to slow down. Your Instagram password and session stay in your browser.

Where it fits

The extension is still the place to watch, download and transcribe. The chat is for questions: what broke out across these four accounts this quarter, which hooks repeat, what should the next three posts be.

Asking for a sort has more prompts to copy, along with the beta limits in full.
